2021-2022 and 2022-2023 FAFSA Cycles
Fill out the FAFSA right from your phone -- the FAFSA mobile app (myStudentAid) is now available! You may download the myStudentAid app from both the Apple App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android). The myStudentAid mobile app provides the following features:
- myFAFSA: Complete the FAFSA safely and securely from your mobile device
- Profile: Manage your FSA ID
- myFederalLoans: View federal student aid history
- Contact Us: Contact information for FSA’s contact centers
- StudentAid.gov: Access Federal Student Aid’s key source of information about the federal student aid programs, application process, and loan repayment options
The 2021-2022 FAFSA cycle began on October 1, 2020. The application is available until June 30, 2022. The income information needed to complete the FAFSA can be found on your 2019 tax return. The IRS DRT (Data Retrieval Tool) is available for the 2021-22 FAFSA cycle. Tax return information transferred from the IRS into the FAFSA now has stronger security and privacy protections.
- As a result, the tax information transferred from the IRS does not display on the IRS DRT web page, on the FAFSA form, or on the Student Aid Report (SAR).
- Instead of the user’s tax information being displayed, the phrase “Transferred from the IRS” appears in the appropriate fields on the FAFSA.
The 2022-23 FAFSA cycle will begin on October 1, 2021. Please consider using the "myStudent Aid" app (the FAFSA mobile app) to complete or renew your FAFSA. The income needed to complete the FAFSA can be found on your 2020 tax return.
The Department of Education and the Internal Revenue Service have partnered together so that students and families can retrieve their tax data directly from the IRS when completing the FAFSA.
We recommend you utilize the IRS Data Retrieval Process. If you are selected for verification, in many cases you will not have to submit copies of tax transcripts before your financial aid eligibility is finalized.

IRS Data Retrieval Tips
When using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool you must enter your name and address EXACTLY (upper/lower case) as it appears on your tax return. The USPS may have updated your address to be postal compliant (ie. Street will be updated to ST).
The following applicants will not be able to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool:
- Applicant or parent of a dependent student who filed an extension to file for tax year 2015 and have not filed as of October 15, 2016.
- A married independent applicant and spouse who filed separate tax returns.
- Parents of a dependent student who filed separate tax returns.
- An applicant or applicant’s parent who had a change in marital status after December 31, 2014.
- Unmarried parents living together.
If you already filed your FAFSA but did not use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, you may do so at www.fafsa.gov. After entering your identifying information, click on “Make FAFSA Corrections” located in the middle of the page.
