About the Center

Books for writing

Clarkson University's Writing Center is an arm of the Eastman Kodak Center for Excellence in Communication (CEC) in the School of Arts & Sciences. The primary goal of the Writing Center is to help students become better writers, while fully supporting Clarkson’s communication-across-the-curriculum initiative, faculty curricular objectives and the growth and development of the Center’s Writing Consultants. We also work closely with Clarkson's Co-Writing Program, which readies students, who are entering Clarkson University as first-year students, for college-level writing, as well as with other writing-intensive courses and initiatives.

Touting Our Successes
Zhan Wen Li, a client of the writing center

Zhan came to Clarkson as a first-generation, international, college student after her mother moved to the U.S. to give her a brighter future. Shy when she landed in our Writing Center, Zhan practically lived here during her four years, working with consultants to improve her UNIV190 journal entries in her first year, running through her “speed interviewing” answers for the career fair and utilizing our services to develop her resume and numerous cover letters. But working on her senior Honors Thesis was when she needed the most help. From survey construction and feedback to refining her ideas for a research model, we didn’t just edit her grammar; we challenged her to think about her research in terms of novelty, validity and reliability. Zhan is sharp and hardworking, with a drive to accomplish her goals. At the same time, she also credits resources like the Writing Center for aiding in the development of her communication skills. She graduated in 2016 and started her career with IBM, in Chicago, as an enterprise application consultant. She also hopes to pursue an M.B.A. in the future.
