Extension Certificates

Clarkson University’s Department of Education offers two online summer programs, which extend initial certificates. The Middle Childhood extension, also known as the 5-6 Extension, extends the 7-12 content area certificate to grades 5-6. The Languages other than English 1-6 (LOTE 1-6) extends a foreign language 7-12 certificate to grades 1-6.

Benefits

  • Strengthens your resume to open you up to more job opportunities.
  • Gain knowledge and skills to understand where your 7-12 graders are coming from while learning more about the development of younger students.
  • Adds to your graduate credits and can possibly move you up on the salary schedule.
  • Counts as professional development hours/credits towards CTLE for those with Professional Certification.

How Does it Work?

After successful completion, Clarkson's Education Department will recommend you for certification through the NYSED TEACH System. This process is similar to the 7-12 Initial Certification process. Specific instructions will be provided.

Application

To apply for the program, you only need to fill out the non-degree application. Make sure to choose Non-Degree Application in the drop down when you start a new application, as it is a shorter and streamlined application. Union Graduate College and Clarkson alumni do not have to furnish transcripts. All others should provide unofficial or official transcripts.
