For High School Guidance Counselors

Ignite the Futures of Aspiring Innovators

Clarkson University is for doers. In our undergraduate and Clarkson School pre-college programs, students pursue their ideas and see theories unfold in research labs and Clarkson Ignite, our multidisciplinary hub for collaboration and innovation. They apply classroom concepts in internships, co-ops, and global and immersion experiences, and they translate their curiosity into career-ready skills and an impressive resume that paves the way to success in the workforce. This is proven by our incredible 98% placement rate and high starting salaries (nearly $72K for the Class of 2023).

High school guidance counselors like yourself play an integral role in identifying individuals ready for the rigors of a Clarkson education and serve as their point person throughout the application process. Know a few students who fit this description? Prepare to spark their interest and support them during this important transition with the following resources.

Leadership and Achievement Award Nominations

Clarkson strives to make a college education more affordable, including through various merit-based scholarships. If you’re impressed by a student’s ingenuity or tenacity, learn how to nominate them for awards recognizing their outstanding academic achievements or leadership abilities.

Applying to Clarkson

As can-do as your students can be, they still have questions. And we have the resources to help you with common inquiries that arise during the application process.

Completing an Application

Understand which application your students need to fill out (the Clarkson Application or the Common Application). Additionally, work with them during advising appointments to create a checklist based on relevant admission requirements and documentation.

Testing Policies

Clarkson is a test-optional school. However, we do evaluate official and unofficial SAT/ACT scores submitted with a student’s application and require international candidates to provide evidence of English proficiency. Learn more about submitting scores.

Submitting Documents

As a high school guidance counselor, prepare to write and submit recommendations on behalf of your students, request additional recommendations from teachers and send final high school transcripts. Understand your involvement throughout the application process, plus where and how to provide this information.

AP and IB Scores

Learn more about Clarkson’s policies for accepting and assigning course credit for Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) exams.

Financial Aid for Incoming First-Year Students

Encourage your students to think about how they’ll pay for their education. Stress the importance of completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) to access all possible funding opportunities, and steer them toward both institutional and outside scholarships to reduce their overall costs.

Financial Aid for The Clarkson School

Students applying to The Clarkson School are advised to submit a FAFSA® and explore various funding sources, including need- and achievement-based awards, to lower their overall cost of attendance.
