Pre-dental studies at Clarkson can fit into any major. Each of the prerequisites for dental school is either a requirement of the specific major you are in or can be completed as an elective. You will have access to these required courses every year, making it easy to maintain steady progress toward your goals.

The process to qualify for the pre-dental track is simple. Once you are accepted into a major, you need only to contact the pre-dental advisor about your interest. The trusted advisor will help you create an individualized plan of study. They will also point you toward opportunities like mentorships, community service and internships.

Pre-dental students take part in all the events and activities promoted by the Pre-Health Sciences Advising Office. You can attend speaker series and general meetings about health careers. The Advising Office also offers prep materials for the different admissions tests. You can also form part of our active pre-health professions coed fraternity that recruits members from all aspects of the Clarkson community.

What You'll Learn

The requirements for entry vary a bit from dental school to dental school, but in general, they include the following:

  • Biology with Laboratory (two semesters)
  • Calculus (two semesters)
  • Chemistry with Laboratory (two semesters)
  • Organic Chemistry with Laboratory (two semesters, one of lab)
  • Physics (two semesters)

Student advising plays an essential role in our pre-dental track. As a student, you will be assigned an advisor who will work with you to design a personalized course of study to reach your goals. You will also have a team across the University to help you develop meaningful credentials, study for placement exams and successfully apply to the programs of your choosing. Students interested in medicine, dentistry or pharmacy can apply for a reserved seat at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) before the end of their second year at Clarkson. The provisional acceptance requires a successful interview and can occur as early as your senior year of high school. Learn more about the early acceptance program.
