Pre-Medical (Advising Track)

Begin Your Path to Medicine

If you have your sights set on medical school, Clarkson University's Pre-Medical Advising Track can help you get there. Fulfill the prerequisites for your application, gain research and field experience and explore your options in the healthcare professions. All under the personalized guidance of a supportive advising team.

Why Choose the Pre-Medical Advising Track at Clarkson?

We understand the kind of students med schools want. Our goal is to help you get there. You will be assigned a pre-health student advisor during your first year who will help you navigate the application prerequisites and help you find volunteer and research opportunities to build your résumé. Our Career Center can connect you with high-quality internships in the medical field.

You will find this same kind of personalized attention in our small class sizes. Our world-class faculty offer mentorship and guidance in their specializations. With state-of-the-art facilities, like Clarkson's cadaver lab, you will gain hands-on experience that is usually reserved for graduate students in other institutions. Clarkson's 200-plus student groups and organizations also offer another outlet to explore outside interests, hone your talents and be of service to the community.

Our robust list of majors and minors will give you a strong foundation and let you explore different options in healthcare. We offer fast-track admissions to our programs in physical therapy, occupational therapy and physician assistant studies. We also have partnerships with graduate programs in other institutions that can accelerate your career.

Student advising plays an essential role in our pre-medical track. As a student, you will be assigned an advisor who will work with you every year to ensure you're making steady progress toward your application materials. During your first two years, you'll take relevant coursework and gain experience in the medical community through volunteering or internships. In your third year, you will work on building a portfolio for applications. In your final year, you will focus on the application and admissions process.

In addition to your advisor, you will have a team across the University to help you develop meaningful credentials, study for placement exams and help you with your post-graduation options. Every student has a personalized experience to reach their individual goals. Learn more about advising at Clarkson.

Introduction to Healthcare is a series of seminar courses that introduce students interested in all areas of healthcare to issues such as professionalism, health delivery systems, medical ethics and the research basis for clinical care. It's one way you can explore other aspects of healthcare and other healthcare professions besides medicine.

Students interested in medicine, dentistry or pharmacy can apply for a reserved seat at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) before the end of their second year at Clarkson. The provisional acceptance requires a successful interview and can occur as early as your senior year of high school. Learn more about the early acceptance program.

As a student, you will have the chance to apply your knowledge outside of the classroom and gain meaningful pre-professional experience. Find out more about the following opportunities:

“I feel like I have a supportive community here at Clarkson, especially due to the CUPO [Community of Underrepresented Professional Opportunities] program and my research mentor.
