Our Engineering Science program is the right fit if you want a degree that spans multiple disciplines and departments.

Clarkson University offers an MS in engineering science for qualified students who desire interdisciplinary graduate study in engineering that does not fit within any of the four engineering departments shown below.

This program allows your to pursue a basic master's degree in engineering science with an emphasis on all aspects of the engineering and science schools. The degree program enables you to pursue a broad range of topics and make your master's degree your own.

Engineering Science Curriculum

Master of Science Requirements

In order to earn your master's in engineering science, you must complete 30 total credit hours, 12 of which must be in engineering-specific courses.

PhD Requirements

In order to earn your PhD in Engineering Science, you must complete 60 credits beyond MS, 90 credits beyond the BS.

General Admission Requirements

Applicants should have a solid foundation in science and mathematics, as evidenced by academic grades and scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). International applicants must also submit a TOEFL/IELTS score.

For programs in engineering, all PhD applicants need to show proof they have received a master’s degree or are currently in a master’s program before they can be admitted into a PhD program, with the exception of the Materials Science and Engineering program. A complete application file consists of the following:

  • Application form.
  • Resume and statement of purpose.
  • Letters of recommendation — three letters required.
  • Official transcripts.
  • Test scores — GRE* and TOEFL/IELTS (if applicable).

*GRE may be waived for some applicants.
