Biography
Dr. Johns is the Founding Dean of the Lewis School of Health Sciences at Clarkson University and a Board member of the North Area Health Education Center. In both of these roles he is working to develop strategies to build a better infrastructure to develop a more sustainable workforce for healthcare.
Prior to Clarkson University, Dr. Johns worked at Quinnipiac University where he served two primary roles: Chair & Program Director of the Department of Athletic Training, Interim Chair of Diagnostic Imaging, and Sports Medicine and Director of General Education. He has served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Athletic Training and as a member of the NATA-Research Education Foundation Research Committee.
Dr. Johns received an undergraduate degree from Lock Haven University in 1985, a Masters in Biology from Bucknell University 1987 and a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Vermont in 1992.
While at the University of Vermont, Dr. Johns studied neuro-immunology and the role that cytokines play in the regulation in autoimmunity and injury repair. As a postdoctoral fellow at Bayer Pharmaceutical, he studied cellular signal transduction and gene regulation. Dr. Johns has focused his studies in the areas of autoimmunity and energy modalities. His current research focuses on how different methods of cognitive learning influence the progression of autoimmunity and the repair of brain injuries.
He has published in a wide range of journals including: Journal of Immunology, Journal of Neuroimmunology, Brain Research, Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology, Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Physical Therapy and the Journal of Athletic Training.
