Sustainable Solutions Minor

Clarkson’s minor in Sustainable Solutions is available to students in any degree program. The minor seeks to employ humanitarian principles toward sustainable solutions that address the conflict that often occurs between economic development and environmental justice. A goal of the curriculum is to provide students with the tools to understand issues concerning social justice and sustainability to be used when designing and implementing sustainable solutions. 

Course Requirements

A minor in Sustainable Solutions is available to all students except those majoring in the Environmental Science & Sustainability BS degree program. To obtain a minor, a student must successfully complete the 18 credit hours outlined below:

A. Core Courses - choose TWO of these three (for 6 credits total)

  • EV280 Environmental Science (or CE340)
  • EV305 Sustainability & the Environment (or CE486)
  • Introductions to Energy Systems (ES238)

B. Select ONE Sustainable Solutions Elective* (for 3 credits)

C. Select ONE course from THREE of these four categories (for 9 credits total)

  • Climate Change Choice (ES436 or CE 316)
  • Sust. Social Science choice: (Soc 330, ANTH 255, ANTH 285, EV320)*
  • Sust. Business choice (EC360, OS352, SB/EM361, EM121,EM/OM451)
  • DEI designated course


* ADK Semester can be used for Sust. Soln, & Sust Soc. Science choices
