Biography

Dr. Alison Mackey has over 15 years of teaching experience at the university-level both at the graduate and undergraduate level, ranging in formats from traditional residential programs, to online, to hybrid, to project-based learning. Her core teaching area is strategic management but she also teaches leadership, entrepreneurship, teams, and compensation.

Professor Mackey’s research is related to how firms create competitive advantage through human capital—particularly through executive talent and corporate social responsibility. She has published in peer-reviewed journals such Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Perspectives, Journal of Management, and Organizational Dynamics. Amongst her several academic and professional honors are: Wiley Blackwell Outstanding Dissertation award from the Business Policy and Strategy Division of the Academy of Management, Editorial Board member of the Strategic Management Journal and the Journal of Management.

Prior to joining Clarkson, Alison taught as a lecturer at University of Utah, visiting assistant professor at Westminster College and Texas A&M University, and as an assistant professor at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. She also spent three years as a visiting scholar at Brigham Young University (BYU). During that time she had the opportunity to work as a faculty research mentor at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah, coaching faculty in developing their research streams and generally with the publication process to support the school’s AACSB accreditation efforts.
