Elisabeth “Arti” Wulandari Receives Tenure and Promotion to Associate Professor at Clarkson University
Clarkson University has announced that Elisabeth “Arti” Wulandari has been granted tenure and promoted to associate professor of humanities in the Department of Arts, Culture & Technology.

Wulandari teaches a diverse range of literature courses, including Nobel Prize Winners in Literature, Short Stories from Southeast Asia, Graphic Novels, and Horror Fiction from Asia. In addition to her work in literature, she is actively engaged in scholarship on Indonesian language pedagogy.Her English translation of the Indonesian novel Cahaya di Penjuru Hati (Light from the Heart) was published in February 2022. She is also co-author of Indonesian Culture APP, a digital textbook designed to teach cultural context and scenarios to language learners and researchers preparing for fieldwork in Indonesia. This open-access resource includes 60 cultural scenarios, each accompanied by expert feedback, reflection, and extension tasks.
Wulandari is currently collaborating with three co-authors on the third installment of the Indonesian language textbook Ayo Berbahasa Indonesia (Let’s Speak Indonesian). She has been appointed vice president of the Consortium for the Teaching of Indonesian (COTI) for the 2023-2026 term and has served as coordinator for the Indonesian Program at the Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute (SEASSI), hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, during the summers of 2021 and 2024.
A two-time Fulbright scholar, Wulandari first attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where she earned a Master of Arts in comparative literature. She then returned to Indonesia to teach at Sanata Dharma University for four years before receiving a second Fulbright scholarship to pursue a doctorate in comparative literature at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
A native of Gunung Kidul—a dry, karst-plateau region in central Java, Indonesia—Wulandari credits her parents, both K-12 teachers, with fostering her deep love of learning. She enjoys being in nature, gardening, and hiking in the Adirondacks. An avid nature and wildlife photographer, her work has been featured as North Country Public Radio’s Photo of the Day and in Grow magazine at the University of Wisconsin.
