Brown teaches introduction to financial and managerial accounting in the Engineering and Management program, as well as intermediate accounting II, advanced accounting, and taxation. She is dedicated to preparing students with a strong foundation in accounting principles and their applications in real-world financial environments.

Her research primarily examines the effects of accounting, finance, and firm events on capital markets, including international accounting issues, corporate governance, firms’ information environments, firm listings and delistings, and labor unions. Many of her studies focus on market “shocks,” which create natural experiments that reveal powerful effects on capital markets.

Brown’s work has been published in premier journals such as the Journal of Accounting Research, The Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research, and The Journal of Business Ethics, all of which are Financial Times 50 publications. Her research has also been featured multiple times on Columbia University Law School’s BlueSky blog on corporations and the capital markets. In recognition of her contributions to the field, she was the 2024 recipient of the David D. Reh School of Business Research Excellence Award.
