Abul Baki Receives Tenure and Promotion to Associate Professor at Clarkson University
Clarkson University has announced that Abul Baki has been granted tenure and promoted to associate professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Baki has dedicated his career to advancing multidisciplinary research in aquatic ecosystems, promoting sustainable water solutions, and mentoring future engineers and scientists. He has developed and taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate-level courses in water resources engineering, consistently earning high student evaluations. He has also actively participated in initiatives aimed at engaging young minds in STEM education at Clarkson.
Baki leads the Ecohydraulics Lab at Clarkson, where his research addresses critical challenges in aquatic ecosystems. His ongoing projects apply state-of-the-art techniques such as tomographic particle image velocimetry (Tomo-PIV), computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling, structure-from-motion (SfM), and artificial intelligence (AI). His research focuses on ecohydraulics, ecological river restoration, microplastics pollution, hydrodynamics and morphodynamics of coastal and reservoir systems, and data-driven water management.
Baki’s work has received support from several organizations, including the National Science Foundation, New York State Empire State Development Corp., NYSTAR, NYSDEC, and Fisheries and Oceans Canada. His research has produced approximately 70 scholarly works, including 42 peer-reviewed journal articles and 27 peer-reviewed conference papers, published in high-impact journals such as the Journal of Ecohydraulics, Ecological Engineering, Science of The Total Environment, Environmental Science & Technology, and Nature’s Scientific Reports.
In addition to his research and teaching, Baki is actively involved in service at Clarkson and in the professional community. He serves on several departmental committees, including the steering committee for the New York State Center of Excellence in Healthy Water Solutions. He also holds editorial roles, such as co-guest editor for Scientific Reports, and contributes to technical committees, including the Environmental and Water Resources Institute River Restoration Technical Committee and the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research International Symposium on Ecohydraulics.
Baki is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering, the American Geophysical Union, and the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research. He is also a professional member of Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia, Canada, reflecting his dedication to the field of water resources engineering.
