Fram Akiki ’86, P’17/18 Joins Clarkson University Board of Trustees

Fram Akiki ’86, P’17/18, president and co-founder of Joun Technologies, was named to the Clarkson University Board of Trustees on May 9. As a trustee, Akiki will serve on the Academic Affairs Committee.

Akiki brings more than 40 years of experience in the semiconductor and electronics industry to the board, including executive leadership roles with IBM, Qualcomm and Siemens. He is president and co-founder of Joun Technologies, where he focuses on innovation and digital transformation in the technology sector.

A Clarkson alumnus, Akiki earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from Clarkson University. He also holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering and an MBA in international business from the University of Vermont.

Throughout his career, Akiki has authored several white papers and holds a patent related to RFID and cellular connectivity for the Internet of Things market. In addition to his industry leadership, he serves as an adjunct instructor at both Clarkson University and California State University.

“Fram’s extensive experience in engineering, technology innovation and entrepreneurship will bring valuable insight to the Board of Trustees,” said Clarkson University President Michelle Larson. “His engagement with Clarkson as an alumnus, educator and supporter of the University demonstrates his deeply-rooted commitment to preparing the next generation of leaders and innovators.”

A native of Tupper Lake, NY, now residing in San Diego, CA, Akiki is also an Adirondack 46er. He enjoys playing hockey, golf and traveling.

Akiki and his family have maintained strong ties to Clarkson University across generations. His son participated in the Young Scholars program and earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 2017 and an MBA in 2018. His daughter also participated in the University’s Young Scholars and Horizons programs. In addition, Akiki’s two brothers graduated from Clarkson in 1982.
