Clarkson Profiles in Construction Webinar Series Returns for Second Season

Clarkson University’s Construction Engineering Management Program will launch the second season of its Profiles in Construction webinar series Thursday, Sept. 17, offering students, industry professionals and community members an inside look at careers and projects across the construction industry.

The free, virtual series features Clarkson alumni, industry partners and experienced professionals sharing their career paths, lessons learned and perspectives on the field through informal, fireside chat-style conversations.

The fall series begins Sept. 17 with “Building Across Five Boroughs,” featuring Michael Bielawa ’85, safety director at Consigli Construction Co. Inc.
Additional webinars include:

Oct. 8 — “Career Growth in Glass and Beyond” with Thomas G. Capek, senior vice president and chief engineer, and Mark Jones ’89, senior manager of facilities civil, structural and electrical, manufacturing technology and engineering, at Corning Incorporated.
Nov. 19 — “Projects with Purpose” with Hannah E. Bagshaw ’17, ’20, project manager at Turner Construction Company — NYN.
Dec. 10 — “Managing Construction in the Mid-Atlantic” with Hunter Secor ’18, project manager at FlatironDragados.

Each webinar will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Zoom and is free and open to the public. Participants can access the Zoom link for one or all of the events.

The series is hosted by Erik C. Backus ’97, ’23, professor of practice and director of Clarkson’s Construction Engineering Management Program.

Housed within Clarkson’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the Construction Engineering Management Program combines engineering and management education with hands-on, industry-connected experiences. The program prepares students for careers in building construction, civil infrastructure and related fields while connecting them directly with professionals working across the industry.

Through programs such as Profiles in Construction, Clarkson also aims to introduce prospective students and younger generations to the range of careers available in an industry responsible for building and maintaining the infrastructure and spaces communities rely on every day.
