Crew Team

At Clarkson University, experience the glide of success just minutes from campus.
We’re located in the St. Lawrence River watershed, which explains our many rivers and lakes. The Clarkson campus is just 30 minutes from the St. Lawrence River. Our boathouse is located on Norwood Lake in the village of Norwood, which is 7.5 miles north of campus. The lake is a dammed section of the Raquette River, which originates from Raquette Lake in the Adirondack Mountains.
About Crew
Clarkson University Crew is a dedicated group of students who thoroughly enjoy rowing and the camaraderie of being on a team. Practices are in the village of Norwood, Mondays through Fridays, with regattas occurring on weekends.
The students on our team come from different backgrounds and have different abilities, ranging from beginners to experienced rowers. We are lucky to have a dedicated head coach, as well as three assistant coaches; without their help, none of our achievements would have been possible! We are proud of what this team has become, and are excited to be moving forward!
Clarkson students have a competitive nature, and not just in the classroom but on the sports field too. As a club, we continuously push ourselves to learn better tactics and achieve our competition goals.
Our boathouse is located on Norwood Lake, a short drive away from campus. The boathouse is an excellent location for practices on and off the water and is home to our equipment.

Winter and Spring Training
From November through March, the team focuses on indoor training, including erg workouts, cycling, weightlifting, and other cross-training sessions. During this period, coaches and rowers collaborate to set fitness goals and begin planning boat lineups for the upcoming racing season.
A highlight of the spring is our Spring Break training trip in mid-March, held at Camp Bob Cooper in Summerton, South Carolina. This beautiful lakeside camp offers the perfect environment for focused training and team bonding. We typically row two to three times a day, and in between practices, we enjoy time to relax, explore the area, play volleyball, and hang out as a team. It’s not just a training camp—it’s a fun and memorable experience that many rowers look forward to each year.
As soon as the ice melts, we resume on-water practices at Norwood Beach.
