  • Official high school transcript
  • Test Optional: SAT/ACT Scores, if submitted the scores will be taken into consideration during the admissions process. Clarkson will also accept self-reported test scores. See Guidelines.
  • A letter of recommendation from a school counselor, principal, or headmaster
  • A second letter of recommendation from a teacher
  • Personal statement or Essay (250 - 500 words
  • Application Fee - $50 (Waived for Applications Submitted Online)
*Special Note Regarding the Redesigned SAT (Fall 2017 applicants and beyond): Clarkson will not require that you take the optional essay writing portion of the redesigned SAT.  For students that will have taken both the newly redesigned SAT as well as the old version, Clarkson will accept and consider both score sets.
Step Three

Additional Application Related Information

  • Business or Humanities: your record should include at least four units of English, three units of math, and one unit of science
  • Engineering, Engineering & Management, or the Sciences, your record should include four units of English, four units of math, and three or four units of science, including chemistry and physics
  • SAT Subject Exams are recommended but not required

Applying for Undergraduate Programs - Transfer Students

Transfer admissions is done on a rolling basis.

Please submit all of the following materials according to Clarkson’s admission dates and deadlines:

  • Dean of Students Recommendation Form (PDF) *needs to be completed prior to enrollment

  • Official transcripts from each college or university you have attended. (If you attended college outside of New York State, please provide course descriptions.

  • Letters of recommendation.  While not required, Clarkson will consider recommendations during the application review process.  These recommendations can come from a professor, an employer, a former teacher, a coach, or another professional.   

  • Personal statement (250-500 words) describing a special interest, experience, or achievement that is important or meaningful to you.

  • All transfer students are REQUIRED to submit a final high school transcript. This is required for federal aid and will not be taken into consideration for admission, unless the criteria below for credits is not met.

Less Than 24 Hours of Credit

If you have earned less than 24 hours of credit at your current college or university, you will also need to supply the following information:

  • Official high school record
  • Test Optional-Official SAT/ACT scores, if submitted the scores will be taken into consideration during the admissions process. Clarkson's SAT code is 2084 and our ACT code is 2698.

Applying for Undergraduate Programs - International Students

These application instructions are for non-U.S. citizens applying for first-year enrollment at Clarkson. If you have already earned some university credit, you should apply as a transfer student. To review your application, we need to receive all of the following materials and information according to Clarkson’s admission dates and deadlines:

  • Clarkson University Freshman Application or Common App 
  • Official secondary school transcript, mark sheets, or national exam scores.
  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • Test Optional-Official SAT/ACT scores, if submitted the scores will be taken into consideration during the admissions process.

  • Official English proficiency test scores. Here is the link for countries with English testing waivers. Acceptable tests and minimum scores are:
    • TOEFL, 80
    • IELTS, 6.5
    • Duolingo English Test, 105
    • PTE, 56
Step Three

Applicants for admission who are not U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents (green card holders) are likely to need to secure a student visa. (Students on certain visas may not require a student visa; please refer to the Student and Exchange Visitor Program document Who Can Study?)

For issuance of an I-20, students must show proof of financial support. There are two ways to show proof of finances:

  1. Complete and return the Certificate of Finance Form included in our application packet or downloadable from our Web site. On this form you will need to show specific amounts of support and the sources of the support. You will also need to include the signatures of any sponsors or your parents, in addition to a signature from a bank official; or
  2. Provide a certified letter from your sponsor indicating the amount of support available for each year along with a supporting letter from a bank official.

Applying to The Clarkson School - U.S. Citizens

Step Three

Application Decision:

Once all materials are received for your Clarkson School application, you will be notified of your admission decision within five to seven days.

Applying to The Clarkson School - International Students

Application Deadline

Application Requirements

All applicants for admission who are not U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents (green card holders) need to secure a student visa and are required to show proof of financial support as a condition of being issued an official letter of acceptance and an I-20 form. There are two ways to show proof of finances:

  1. Complete and return the Certificate of Finance Form. On this form, you will need to show specific amounts of support and the sources of the support. You will also need to include the signatures of any sponsors or your parents, in addition to a signature from a bank official.

  • 2-3 letters of recommendation from a faculty member of professional reference**
  • TOEFL or IELTS Test Scores (if applicable)

  • Resume
  • Application Fee - $50 (waived if you attend one of our Open Houses online or onsite)

*May not be applicable for some applicants depending on program and experience
