HALT! You there! Do you seek the greatest Pre-O trip to ever grace this earth? Look no further, because you’ve come to the right place. Join us on our quest to find the gneissest rocks the Southern Adirondacks has to offer. If you’re lucky enough to come along, you’ll spend your days catching lake views on the tops of our favorite cliffs, sampling gourmet crag snacks, and learning the climbing craft. When the sun gets low you’ll find yourself sitting around the fire playing cards, telling stories, and enjoying our fine camp cuisine. If the thought of trying climbing for the first time gives you the heebie jeebies, worry not! We were once in those shoes too. Give climbing one try and you’ll be hooked, the first one’s free anyway.

Itinerary:

Day 1: We’ll hit the road bright and early, and drive on down to the Queen of American Lakes. On our way we’ll take a pit stop at Ark Wall to show y’all the ropes. After a half-day of rope wrangling, we’ll waddle over to our campsite to set up our tents and hammock stacks. Us leaders will whip you up a delicious backcountry meal before we tuck in to the sound of bull frogs and crickets.

Day 2: Now that we’ve learned a thing or two about climbing and geology, we can take our skills to even greater heights! Shelving Rock will be our home for the day, as we catch some panoramic lake vistas and sun ourselves on the talus fields. Before we head back to camp for the night, we can take a shower in a nearby waterfall or a dip in the crystal clear waters of Lake George.

Day 3: On our last day in the woods we’ll break camp and high tail it back to campus. Rest assured, you’ll make it back to your dorm with enough time to shower and return to civilization.

Looking for a relaxing, but exciting trip to introduce you to Clarkson? This historic canoe route is the trip for you (the trip for anyone, and everyone!). Explore the beauty of the Adirondacks while paddling the Seven Carries. Start Day One off with a beautiful paddle through Little Clear Pond, a brief portage to get to Saint Regis Pond (we promise it's not that bad), and enjoy the rest of the day relaxing at the lakefront campsite swimming, fishing, and eating a delicious hot meal. On day two, pond hopping begins! We will paddle through four lovely ponds, each with their own beautiful views, and do small portages in between. On day three, we will back track and explore more mini ponds. On the final morning, we will wake up early and catch a lovely sunrise on our short paddle back to the boat launch!

Itinerary:

Day 1: We will start the day with a peaceful paddle across Little Clear Pond and a short 0.5-mile portage to Saint Regis Pond. Once on Saint Regis Pond we will explore the many campsites and find the best view of the pond to set up camp. This will take up most of our day, filled with paddling, relaxing and swimming.

Day 2: On day two we will pond hop up to Green Pond, Little Long Pond, Bear Pond, and Bog Pond. Paddling short distances and carrying up to a mile in total. Each pond offers different views and calming scenery.

Day 3: On the third day we can paddle back towards Saint Regis Pond, and can explore other small ponds around Saint Regis Pond.

Day 4: We will be leaving this morning, doing a short carry from Saint Regis Pond to Little Clear Pond and paddling back to the boat launch.

Additional Note: “If the original plan does not work, we can hangout and paddle on Little Clear Pond. This trip is very versatile and can be adapted to the skill set of the students who go on our trip.”

Major: Environmental Engineering
Graduation Year: 2026
Hello Everybody! My name is Robert Greenberg. I am the Vice President of the Outing Club and the man behind the program. This means if you have any questions that you want to ask about pre-o, I'm your guy. My email is greenbrj@clarkson.edu. With that, here's a little about me! I am an environmental engineering major from Orange County, NY. I am an Eagle Scout, a Green Bay Packers fan, a diehard fisherman, a decent hunter, someone who dabbles in some hiking, and a big fan of milk. I love playing soccer, tennis, spike ball, and many other sports. I look forward to meeting all of you, and please don't hesitate to ask me any questions.

Graduation Year: 2026
Hey! My name is Jack and I'm from Northern Virginia, right outside of Washington DC. I love getting outside any way that I can. Whether that be climbing, paddling, backcountry snowboarding, or just going for walks on the Munter Trail, being outside is the best. Pre-o is going to be an elite experience and you should definitely go on my paddling trip. The 'dacks have an infinite amount of experiences to offer and pre-o is just a small taste.

Hi nice to meet you my name's Jon, I'm a Super Senior Mechanical Engineering Major so I've been around for a while lol. I have been in love with the outing club since my freshman year pre-o trip and doing all sorts of fun stuff with fun people (outside of course) and want to share that with you. I have been the hiking chair for club in the past and have been hiking and backpacking around the Adirondacks since I've been up here and have fallen in love with the area and hope you will too.

Hey there! My name is Séamus, I’m a senior here at Clarkson University. Some of the many outdoor sports that I enjoy are hiking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and others. Looking forward to seeing everyone coming to Clarkson who are excited to see what we have in store in the outing club, and who are curious about exploring in the Adirondacks!

Major: Mechanical engineering
Graduation Year: 2026
My name is Mia, I am a junior Mechanical Engineering major. I spend all my time outside biking, climbing, skiing and climbing but hiking is my main sport and what made me fall in love with going outside. I grew up camping and learning survival skills with my brother and CUOC has only helped grow my love for the Adirondacks. I am a wilderness first responder, have CPR and
Stop The Bleed certifications and have hiked over 20 high peaks, making me well equipped to lead this backpacking trip. I am super excited for pre o and to help more people explore a place I love!

Hi there! I’m Sam and I’m crazy for all things outdoors! I participate in all parts of club but you can always find me with a fishing rod in hand or on a scenic mountaintop. I am currently one of the canoe chairs but I used to be hiking chair and fishing chair. I have lots of experience doing everything from biking to skiing in all seasons, but I love meeting new people and learning from them too! Most of all, I love sharing my favorite activities with anyone who’s as excited for adventure as I am.

Hi everyone! My name is Lauren! I love all things outdoors: fly fishing, camping, climbing, canoeing, you name it. I am super excited to be leading the best pre-orientation trip this year. We will be pond hopping, cooking good food and having a great time doing it. Paddling in the 'dacks is elite and this trip is sure to prove it.

Major: Aerospace and Mechanical engineering
Graduation Year: 2026
Hey! My name is Sam Ellingson and I’m from Plainfield, New Hampshire, near Dartmouth College. I am a Senior, and I am double majoring in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, but more importantly I am the CUOC sock wrestling champion, and I love spending time outside no matter what I’m doing. When there isn’t snow on the ground I can be found biking, hiking, climbing, and just generally messing around in the outdoors. Over the winter I just try to get as many days on skis as I can, whether resort, backcountry, or cross country. I will be leading a canoe trip, and I plan to get up to as much fun as possible. I hope to be able to spice up our trip with canoe tipping, battleship and the ability to make a great pan of backcountry brownies. I went on a Pre-O my freshman year and I could not recommend it enough so you all should sign up for one!

Oh hey there! If you’re reading this, stop right now and apply for my pre-o, LILA 190. I’m a rising junior who spends as much time as possible outside. I mostly ski and climb, which are by far the coolest things to do in the mountains. I also play violin, bass, and guitar, if you sign up for my pre-o, your ears will be blessed with my fine musical repertoire. Hope to see you soon.

Hi there, I’m Nyk and I’m a senior this year. I use she/her, they/them and he/him pronouns, and honestly, I don’t know much about TROUT and fishing, but I’m pretty great at the canoeing part. In the outing club I’ve been in charge of whitewater kayaking for like, three years now, and I’m also the president of blacksmithing club at Clarkson. I love skiing and getting lost in the back 40, which is not hard if you try walking on one of the bike paths. You should definitely come hang out with me and Zach and Grady for your pre-o trip, it’s gonna be so much fun and you won’t wanna miss out. Bonus points if you come with some stellar book recommendations, I can legit talk about books for hours, try me.

Enjoyer of touching rocks, being outside and adventures. I ski when there’s snow , I’ve been known to canoe, and of course as a CUOC climbing chair I climb occasionally. Heyo!
My name is Emily and I am a junior studying Civil Engineering. More importantly I love the outdoors, whether it’s climbing, skiing, slack-lining, biking, or the occasional hike. Of all the things there are to do outside climbing is definitely the best, gimme a small boulder, a huge cliff line, maybe even some ice, I’m on it. I am one of the current climbing chairs of Cuoc and am a certified Wilderness first responder, so there is no need to fret over the uncertainties of the backcountry, I’ve got you covered. I’m super stoked to take ya’ll on an adventure in the ‘dacks for a few days, my goal is for this to be one of the most fun trips of your first semester! I can’t wait to meet everyone and show you some of the finest climbing of your life!

Yooooooo, my name is Jasper, I'm a junior, (I'm the best skier on the mountain), and I'm super hyped to be leading a pre-o this year. I grew up in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains so I know this area like the back of my hand. I have hiked (almost) all the ADK 46ers including Colden which is our pre-o's objective. While hiking is cool, I would always rather be skiing. I'm the backcountry ski chair for CUOC and I'm super excited because our hike is going to take us right past some the the classic BC lines in the 'Dacks (and I will be talking about them). Outside of CUOC I am on the E board for mountain bike club (highly encourage you check us out if bikes are your thing). So yeah, sign up for my pre-o, or someone else's, you will have a great time and an awesome introduction to Clarkson from the sickest people here!
