Provost's Newsletter: April 2022
Message From the Provost
Happy spring! This season brings transformation to the winter landscape of the North Country and hope for warmer days ahead. Golden Knights create hope for the future as well, striving — through academics, research and personal passions — to better the lives of those in their communities and around the world. We will celebrate their achievements during the University’s Celebration & Recognition of Excellence Weekend and, then, at Commencement next month. Until then, here’s a little about what is going on at Clarkson.

New Knight in the Realm
It’s official! The Clarkson Board of Trustees has selected Marc P. Christensen to lead the University as the 17th President. President-Elect Christensen will be joining us from Texas, where he is dean of the Lyle School of Engineering at Southern Methodist University. We are very excited to welcome him to the Clarkson community this July.
On Collins Hill
President Tony Collins may be stepping down from his 19-year tenure at Clarkson, but his memory will live on — most tangibly in the newly renamed Collins Hill Campus in Potsdam, New York. The designation commemorates Tony and Karen Collins’ contributions to the University and community since arriving in the North Country in 1982.
Clean-Up Teams
The endeavor to clean up per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from the environment will have the help of two newly funded teams. Profs. Selma Mededovic Thagard and Thomas Holsen and Prof. Yang Yang received funding from the DoD Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program to work on removing or destroying PFAS.
Simply the Best
If you’re in Potsdam this month, stop by for Clarkson’s Celebration & Recognition of Excellence Weekend on April 22 and 23! These two days will feature the best in Golden Knight research, scholarship, athletics, innovation, community engagement and more through award ceremonies, speakers, presentations and challenges.
