Past Updates from the Search Committee

4/18/22: Final Message from Presidential Search Co-Chairs

Dear Clarkson Community,

We are delighted to be sending you this final update as we complete our service as Co-Chairs of the Presidential Search Committee and sunset the Committee.

We want to send our sincere thanks to the members of the Search Committee for their unwavering commitment to this most important task and to the entire Clarkson community for your engagement in the process and patience while the search activities thoughtfully progressed.

With the March 24th announcement that Marc P. Christensen will become Clarkson’s 17th President on July 1, the search activities are complete, and the transition activities can begin. A 7-member Transition Committee has been formed. This committee will be advisory to and serve at the direction of the President-Elect. The responsibilities are to be available to advise the new President and facilitate meetings or other activities of the new President as needed. The committee will not have responsibilities that fall under other bodies (e.g., the Board of Trustees, the President-Elect’s Cabinet, the Faculty Senate, etc.) and the committee will be in place until approximately 100 days after Marc becomes President.

The members of the Transition Committee are listed below:

·       Bebonchu Atems – Faculty, Co-Chair and Bridge to the Search Committee

·       Karel Czanderna – Trustee, Co-Chair

·       Mahfuza Akter – Graduate Student

·       Sakena Kearse – Undergraduate Student

·       Cathy McNamara – Staff

·       Devon Shipp – Faculty

·       Steve Smalling – Staff

In closing, it has been an honor and a privilege to serve Clarkson as Search Committee Co-Chairs. We look forward to Clarkson’s next chapter.

Sincerely,

Sanj Kulkarni ’84 and Georgia Keresty ‘83

3/3/22: Update from the Presidential Search Co-Chairs

Dear Clarkson Community,

On behalf of the Presidential Search Committee, we wanted to share a brief update on the search process so far.  We greatly appreciate your patience as the Search Committee continues to be diligently working through the search process.

We are pleased to share that the presidential search is progressing well and remains on schedule. Much of the time since our last update in December has been spent on interviewing candidates and assessing their credentials, capabilities, and match with the challenges and opportunities facing Clarkson, as described in the position profile.

The Search Committee continues to be diligent and generous with their time in assessing the candidates. We have also made progress in narrowing down the candidate pool, while going deep enough with each candidate to ensure they meet the high bar for the leadership and scholarly accomplishments we expect of Clarkson’s next president.

We are committed to provide another update for you by early April.

Best,
Georgia Keresty ‘83 and Sanjeev Kulkarni ‘84
Presidential Search Committee Co-Chairs

9/10/21: Update from the Presidential Search Committee

We would like to provide an update on the activities of our Search Committee.  Since our last update on August 17th, we have been engaged in selecting the external search firm who will partner with us in our search for Clarksons 17th president.

We engaged with numerous well-respected and accomplished search firms who focus on higher education and through a rigorous process have made our selection.  We are pleased to inform the University Community that Isaacson Miller has been selected as our external search firm partner.  Their website is: https://www.imsearch.com/

The Search Committee will now begin the next steps in the search process in partnership with Kate Barry and Elizabeth Dorr, our Isaacson Miller partners.  These next steps include setting up listening sessions” for community members to provide their input to the search; setting up a search website to provide transparency for the community; and beginning development of the leadership profile for this search.

8/17/21: Announcing the Presidential Search Committee Membership

As announced in June, President Tony Collins will be stepping down as Clarkson’s 16th president at the conclusion of the 2022 academic year, after 40 years of service to the institution.

The Clarkson Board of Trustees has established a Presidential Search Process and as part of that process has appointed a Presidential Search Committee co-chaired by Trustees Georgia Keresty ‘83 and Sanjeev Kulkarni ’84. The following members of the University community were nominated and selected from a diverse pool of candidates to also be members of the Presidential Search Committee. While the members represent a range of constituent groups, they are all tasked with bringing a university mindset in their service on the Committee.
