Biography

Beatrice V. Hernout has been appointed assistant professor of Biology and the Institute for a Sustainable Environment at Clarkson University.
She is a member of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry.

Research Interests

Hernout's research interests focus mainly on understanding the effects of chemicals on wildlife species. She is interested in understanding how stressors impact living organisms and ecosystems. Her research integrates techniques from molecular toxicology, spatial analyses, analytical chemistry, ecological monitoring and computational biology, as well as working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment.

The overall aim of her work is improving environmental risk assessment for regulatory purposes, helping in mitigating risks, and contributing to the conservation of wildlife species. Her main research aims focus on assessing the exposure and bioaccumulation of chemicals in wildlife; evaluating the potential adverse effects and predicting the associated risks, and extrapolating risk predictions from individual to populations or communities.

Publications

Hernout has published in the Journal of Theoretical Biology, The Science of the Total Environment, Environmental Pollution, Parasitology Open, Chemosphere, and Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, among other publications, and delivered many research and poster presentations.
