Four credits of project work (ME616 Special Projects) with a Department of Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering faculty advisor. All students must complete a project and are required to present it orally. A written report approved by the chair of the graduate committee is required. With the faculty advisor’s approval, students enrolled in industry-sponsored distance learning programs may accomplish 7 credits of project work and 21 credits of course work.
Thirty credit hours minimum
Minimum of six credit hours of thesis that counts toward the degree
Minimum of 20 credit hours of course and seminar work
Twenty credit hours earned in residence
All students must complete a thesis and defend it orally to a committee consisting of a minimum of three Clarkson faculty members. Exceptional students may be invited to proceed directly to the PhD; such students will be awarded the MS upon completing 40 credit hours and finishing the doctoral candidacy procedure (qualifying exam and proposal defense) with a superior grade.
Those students who are not fully prepared to pursue graduate work in engineering may be required to take additional coursework for which graduate credit will not be given.
Capital Region Campus Degree Requirements:
With evening courses and part-time study, our Capital Region Campus offers the only engineering program in the capital region designed to meet the needs of working professionals. You’ll learn and network with other professionals who are seeking to advance their knowledge and become leaders in their fields. Coursework is also well-matched to recent graduates who want to benefit from learning alongside experienced professionals. The GRE is not required for acceptance into this program.
Our advisors work closely with students to understand their career goals and develop study plans that enable them to advance. Each student program will include a minimum of 10 graduate courses and an MS graduate project in mechanical engineering (total 30 credits).
