Doug Ball
Boeing (Retired)

Doug Ball received his bachelor’s and master’s from The Ohio State University in aerospace, aeronautical and astronautical engineering. He worked at Boeing for 37 years as the chief engineer in Aerodynamics and director of the Enterprise Technology Strategy department. He is currently retired and pursuing his personal interests while serving as a board member at Ballet Arizona.

John Conolly '79
ABB, Alstom and GE (Retired)

John Connolly received his bachelor's in mechanical engineering from Clarkson and a master's in mechanical engineering from the University of Connecticut. He worked in power generation and electrical transmission and distribution for ABB, Alstom and GE over his 37-year career. He held positions as vice president of aftermarket sales, senior vice president of financed projects and vice president of North American service.

Mike Dormer '86
Carrier (Retired)

Mike Dormer received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Clarkson and an MBA from the University of Rochester. He worked for Carrier Transicold for 22 years before retiring in April 2020. He served as the director of Global Service, the general manager of North America Bus & RV and the general manager of Global Container Services.

Michael J. Leamy '93
Professor, Woodruff Faculty Fellow,

School of Mechanical Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology

After graduating from Clarkson in 1993, Dr. Leamy received his master’s and PhD from the University of Michigan. He is now a professor at Georgia Tech and specializes in research regarding nonlinear dynamical behavior in structures and materials. He previously worked as an assistant professor at West Point and as a research associate at the NASA Langley Research Center.

Russ Marvin '88
President, Mission Drives

Russ Marvin graduated from Clarkson with his bachelor’s and earned his master’s at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute before returning to Clarkson to earn his PhD in Engineering Science. He worked many jobs before becoming the co-founder and CEO of the local Potsdam startup LC Drives. Russ holds 46 issued U.S. patents and professional engineering certifications in both New York and Connecticut.

John Papalia '95
Principal Engineer, United Technologies

Dr. Papalia graduated from Clarkson with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He earned Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in mechanical engineering from Purdue University through his study of complex vane-blade interactions within gas turbines. Since joining Pratt & Whitney, John has worked in the areas of airfoil structures, aeromechanics, operability and engine validation testing.

David Schmidt '91, '93, '02
Scientific Software Developer, ExxonMobil Technical Computing

Dr. Schmidt received his bachelor’s, master’s and PhD from Clarkson in mechanical engineering. He currently works as a software developer for ExxonMobil in their Technical Computing and Upstream Research divisions. He has published many papers on topics such as computational fluid dynamics and multiphase flow modeling.

David Young '02
Chief Technology Officer, CAES

Dr. Young holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Aerospace Engineering and a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He also received Bachelor of Science degrees in both aeronautical engineering and physics with a minor in mathematics from Clarkson University. Dr. Young currently serves as the senior vice president and chief technology officer for CAES (Cobham Advanced Electronic Solutions). CAES is a world leader and pioneer of advanced electronics for the most technologically challenging military and aerospace trusted systems. Prior to joining CAES, Dr. Young served as vice president of Advanced Program Development at Lockheed Martin Space in Colorado.
