As LC Drives continues to grow, so too does its connection to Clarkson University.

The company’s recent expansions have been beneficial for Clarkson students, as 13 graduates from Clarkson’s class of 2020 now work for the Potsdam-based motor and generator company, making LC Drives the second largest employer of Clarkson undergraduates. Additionally, LC Drives currently has 10 Clarkson students participating in its co-op program.

Thanks to its relationship with Clarkson’s Shipley Center for Innovation, LC Drives operates out of North Country Incubator space on Clarkson’s downtown campus buildings, having offices and manufacturing facilities inside Peyton Hall, Damon Hall, and Old Main.

In May 2019, LC Drives received a $15 million Series A investment from Koch Engineered Solutions, which spurred a large expansion for the company, increasing their employment from 16 people to 100 employees. Nearly half of the LC Drives’ employees have an affiliation with CU.

“Clarkson University’s strong technical programs and ability to prepare students for the workplace make them a perfect fit for LC Drives,” said Russel Marvin, CEO of LC Drives. Marvin holds both a B.S. and Ph. D in Engineering from Clarkson.

Marvin continues, “from the first day a Clarkson student or graduate begins at LC Drives they are able to make an immediate impact on our fast-growing business as they were taught the right way. Being part of the Clarkson campus is an added bonus since it allows easy access for current students to participate in internships and co-ops, and it provides a smooth transition from a student to an alumnus and a member of the Potsdam and North Country Communities.”

The LC Drives team is energized by a fast-paced, collaborative, rapidly changing, and intellectually challenging work environment, making the Company a great fit for recent college graduates who are energetic and excited to enter the workforce. LC Drives thrives on giving recent graduates the privilege to be hands on in the manufacturing process from their first day on the job. This promotes new ideas within the Company, and it allows young professionals the ability to grow their careers more rapidly with LC Drives compared to other competitors.
