Free Entrepreneurship Workshop

Release Date
Wednesday August 3, 2022

Point Positive and Clarkson University partner with Naturally Lewis and Jefferson County Economic Development to Support Entrepreneurs

Point Positive 22

Point Positive, Inc. and Clarkson’s Shipley Center for Innovation will kick off their annual Point Positive 101 workshop series for entrepreneurs in Carthage on Wednesday August 17th.  This evening workshop will provide a valuable learning opportunity for anyone interested in starting their own business and for those that are already building a company. Participants will receive an introduction to new entrepreneurship tools that provide invaluable guidance to early-stage startups, take part in a variety of breakout sessions led by experts, and have a chance to win up to $500 for their business.

This workshop, which will be held at Zero Dock Street beginning at 4:00 pm, is being organized in collaboration with Naturally Lewis, Jefferson County Economic Development (JCED), Drum Country, Adirondack Economic Development Corporation (AEDC), Adirondack North Country Association (ANCA) and the Watertown Small Business Development Center (SBDC).

In addition to this in-person support, participants will also be invited to access a new online entrepreneurship training program being offered by Clarkson University that provides entrepreneurs with a foundation of knowledge to succeed in launching a new business. The program, Clarkson Entrepreneurship Training, will be offered free of charge to New York State Residents. The courses are completely online and asynchronous, meaning participants can engage with the material at a time and place of their choosing.

Most importantly, those who come to all or part of this workshop will have the opportunity to connect with resource partners and peers that can assist and support them throughout the development of their new venture. Experts will be available to offer help on topics like finding customers, marketing, and raising and managing money. The workshop will conclude with a networking / social hour and opportunities for additional one-on-one meetings. Food and drinks will be provided.

This event is part of a series of workshops led by staff from Clarkson University’s Shipley Center and Point Positive. Future locations include Plattsburgh (8/24), Ogdensburg (8/31), and Saranac Lake (9/7). This workshop series is made possible by the generous support from Adirondack Foundation and New York State’s Innovation Hot Spot program.

Participants can register and find additional information at www.clarksonEtraining.com.

Point Positive is dedicated to establishing entrepreneurial businesses in the Greater Adirondack Region by giving aspiring professionals the support they need to start or accelerate their business and create jobs that also help our communities to thrive. We accomplish this through mentoring and education, raising awareness about economic vitality and business opportunities, and by assembling angel investors who can provide start-up and growth funding. The investors have expertise, networks and capital to support and seed sow promising Adirondack businesses from start-up through growth.

The Shipley Center for Innovation at Clarkson University helps entrepreneurs turn their inventions into businesses. As an important entrepreneurial support hub in the startup ecosystem across New York State’s North Country region, the Shipley Center helps founders commercialize new ideas and launch new ventures to address global challenges and opportunities.
