Clarkson University is encouraging any students interested in participating in the North Country Regional Business Plan Competition to submit their registration by the March 29 deadline. The competition will be held on April 6 at Clarkson University’s Student Center.
The New York Business Plan Regional Competition is the only leading collegiate business plan competition that is a regionally coordinated, collaborative, statewide program. It is one of the largest collegiate business plan competitions in the world.
The competition is open to students enrolled at any of the 10 colleges in the North Country Economic Development Region, and a high school competition will also be held.
Six different tracks are available for student ventures for this year's competition; Information Technology/Software, Social Entrepreneurship/Non-Profit, Clean Technology, Advanced Technology, Products, and Services.
Each team will have 10 minutes to present and 5 minutes for Q&A from the judges. The first prize at the competition is $2,000, with a $1,000 prize for second place and a $500 prize for third.
Managing Director of the Reh Center for Entrepreneurship Erin Draper believes the competition gives students an excellent chance to hone their business planning skills.
“Beyond receiving prize money for their startups, this competition provides students with an opportunity to practice pitching, seek feedback from judges, and engage in a community of entrepreneurially minded individuals,” Draper said. “The application and pitching process is often just the spark a team needs to really dig in.”
Since 2010, over 2,400 student teams from 60 of New York’s colleges and universities have pitched their ideas and ventures at the NYBPC. At the end of the 2017 competition, more than $2,800,000 in cash and in-kind prizes have been awarded to student entrepreneurs in New York.
The regional competition at Clarkson University is a qualifier for the state competition in Albany on April 27. For more information or to apply, visit https://www.clarkson.edu/clarkson-ignite/business-plan-competition.
