The Clarkson team participated in the "Obstacles, Of Course!" challenge, designing and constructing a vehicle that traveled a specified obstacle course. The vehicle scored points for the number of obstacles it successfully overcame.
Destination ImagiNation is the world's largest creative problem solving program for students. This popular process-based program helps students build lifelong skills in creative and critical thinking, teamwork, time management and problem solving. The focus is on architectural design, structural engineering, construction, research, innovation and design process.
The Destination Imagination team members are James C. Madison, a senior electrical engineering major from Queensbury, N.Y.; Christy D. Petruczok, senior, chemical engineering, Orchard Park, N.Y.; Luke D. Dana, junior, electrical engineering, Gouverneur, N.Y.; and Ryan M. Jones, junior, electrical engineering, Waterloo, N.Y. The team's advisor is David P. Wick, assistant professor of physics.
The SPEED program is one of the Wallace H. Coulter School of Engineering hallmark initiatives, exemplifying Clarkson's "defy convention" approach to education. SPEED promotes multidisciplinary, project-based learning opportunities for more than 350 undergraduates annually. Projects involve engineering design, analysis, and fabrication. In addition, students learn real-world business skills, such as budget management, effective teamwork, and communications skills. SPEED receives its primary financial support from the Wallace H. Coulter Foundation with contributions from ExxonMobil and Turner Construction Company.
