Every year the Honors Program accepts 10-15 students from the current Clarkson University first year class, including Clarkson School students.
They enter the Honors Program in the fall semester of their sophomore year and begin the Honors curriculum with the Sophomore Problem Seminar (HP 200). If you have a 3.75 or higher GPA we'd love for you to apply!
The Honors Program may also accept "fast-track" applications from the Clarkson School for admission in the spring semester of the first year in which case they join the course on The Social and Ethical Implications of Research II (HP101). Please note that "fast-track" admission is offered only to a small number of Clarkson School students in the spring semester of their first year at Clarkson. Such students will be expected to have demonstrated outstanding academic potential and a genuine interest in the Honors Program at Clarkson University.
The Honors Program Application consists of two short essay questions, a resume, and a third question which allows you to show and tell us something about you and your passions. Your completed application needs to be submitted by January 15th (or March 1 for transfer admission). Review of applications will begin on December 1st. Early applications are welcome and they will be reviewed by the Admission Committee as they are completed.
Part 1: Submit two essays. Each must be 200-250 words. Both essay prompts must be answered. Please respond to all parts of the prompt.
Tell us about a time you needed help. What happened, why did it happen, and what did you do about it? What did you learn from this experience?
The Clarkson Honors program emphasizes interdisciplinary learning. Tell us about a subject you love learning about that has nothing to do with your intended major. Why do you love it? What do you gain from learning about it? How has it helped you understand yourself, others, the world, and/or your intended major better?
Part 2: Show and Tell. Clarkson Honors asks students to develop their passions in a Capstone project over their last two years in the program. We want to see what you’re passionate about. Please upload an example: it can be a video, another essay, a photograph or a work of art with an accompanying explanation, or something else that shows and/or tells us what you know or care deeply about right now. **If you choose to submit a video, we ask that it be no more than 3 minutes in length. If you choose to submit written material, we ask that it be between 250-400 words (with or without accompanying images).
Part 3: Résumé. Your résumé summarizes your relevant experiences to date. Heading should include personal information (including your contact information, mailing address, email address, and a phone number where you can be reached), and you must have a section on Education. Other sections include some or all of the following: Honors and Awards, Co-curricular Activities (school activities), Extra-curricular Activities (outside of school), Work and Volunteer Experience, and Other Activities (e.g. hobbies, interests and travel). A sample is provided for your reference.
Honors will begin reviewing applications on December 1st. The final date to submit an Honors application, as well as all supplemental materials, is January 15th.
The deadline for transfer admission applications is March 1.
Only in exceptional cases will the Honors Program accept applications after these dates.
