View "Ghosts of the Hudson" art installation by Eric Diehl

Sunday, Oct 9, 2 - 5 p.m.
Water Ecology Center

Artist Eric Diehl presents a panoramic scenario depicting a stretch of the Hudson River at the Beacon waterfront, touching on shifts of human interaction with the river from pre-history to the present day.

Join the artist in person as he displays and illuminates his painted work, which seamlessly weaves an abbreviated history of Hudson area plants and wildlife along a 30-foot canvas in a unique outdoor installation. The work will be displayed by the pond next to the Water Ecology Center.

The event is an outdoor display, so no RSVP is necessary.

Birding Walk and Talk

Fall migrations are in full swing! Enjoy the unique sights and sounds of the season at our public bird walk led by expert Brian Rubino.

This event is kid-friendly. Bird enthusiasts of all ages and experience levels are welcome. Feel free to bring binoculars, or share a pair we provide.

Fall Plant Walk and Talk

Tuesday Oct. 18

Join Tony Shenderovich, Beatrice G. Donofrio Environmental Educator in a fall exploration of Denning's Point Park. Learn to identify Native, Non-native and invasive species with a fun scavenger hunt, led by a knowledgeable guide. The walk will be geared towards adults but is also family friendly. Plant enthusiasts of all levels are welcome. 

 

The group will meet at the park gate by the Denning's Avenue parking lot, and proceed into the park on foot. Please wear comfortable walking shoes.  To RSVP, email Tony Shenderovich at tshender@clarkson.edu. 

Seasonal Beach Clean-up

Wednesday, October 26

10 a.m.

 

Meet us on the beach for a community science cleanup. Participants will join Beacon Institute staff to use Ocean Conservancy data collection protocols to catalog types and numbers of marine debris collected. This event is family-friendly, free and open to the public. We will provide gloves and garbage bags. Feel free to bring your own gloves or grabbers if you have them. 

 

Please wear comfortable walking shoes. The group will meet at the parking lot in front of the Water Ecology Center at 10 a.m. To RSVP, email Tony Shenderovich at tshender@clarkson.edu.
