Clarkson Student Spotlight: February '11
Amanda Koenck ‘12
Need a quick update on America's current political scene? Just ask Amanda Koenck. As a political science major, she is currently interning with the New York State Assembly in Albany, NY and learning the ins-and-outs of politics. During her time on campus, she has played on the basketball team and joined Phi Sigma Sigma sorority while also working toward her goal of attending graduate school. Here’s what she had to tell us during her time away from Clarkson.
Q: Why did you choose Clarkson?
A: I chose Clarkson because of the small size of the campus and small classes. Also, the academic reputation was stellar.
Q: What has been your favorite class so far or your favorite professor? Why?
A: My favorite Professor thus far has been Alexandra Hennessy. She is extremely knowledgeable about International studies, and really has a great enthusiasm about teaching. All of her classes that I have taken with her have been interesting and exciting.
Q: If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
A: I would want to fly. It would be a lot easier getting to places and much easier!
Q: What is your guilty pleasure?
A: Forever 21. I could buy clothes everyday from that store - they’re awesome!
Q: What does “defy convention” mean to you?
A: Not thinking the same as everyone else. Going outside the box, and a little beyond that. Never being afraid of what people think about you and achieving your goals, despite the obstacles.
Q: Do you have any hobbies?
A: Playing basketball, reading James Patterson and dancing (just for fun, nothing serious).
Q: What unique experiences have you had at Clarkson?
A: Joining my sorority, playing basketball for a year and a half, switching majors from Biomolecular Sciences and chemistry to Political Science
Q: Tell us something people would be surprised to know about you.
A: Curling is my favorite Olympic sport to watch!
Q: Who is your hero?
A: I have three. My parents are the most influential and positive people in my life. I don’t know where I would be without them, and Carey Turner, due to her perseverance and dedication to everything she does.
Q: What are your goals for the future?
A: As of right now, finish my internship in Albany, and get my degree. Potentially graduate school to get my Masters of Public Administration (MPA).
Q: What is your favorite spot on campus?
A: The Concrete Café or the Snell Lounge
Q: Who is your favorite “famous” person? Why?
A: Taylor Swift. She is amazing and there isn’t one song of hers that I dislike. She is also a great role model.
