Every summer, Clarkson's Beacon campus hires and trains up to 3 current CU undergraduate students to assist with STEM outreach and environmental participatory field science programs. Opportunities for summer student Program Assistants include helping to host school field trips, leading TEAM Science and other summer programs, and joining multiple environmental field science projects. PAs work part-time, 4 days a week for 10-12 weeks, earning $18/hr.
Summer STEM programs at Beacon involve middle and high school students from the Hudson Valley in science-based experiential learning at Clarkson's Beacon campus in Denning's Point Park in Beacon, NY. Program Assistants will need reliable transportation to campus, and most interns are based within an hour or so of Beacon.

Position Dates: 5/15/23 - 8/11/23
Time Commitment: 20 hrs/week
Type of Position: This is an hourly, non-exempt position. The compensation associated with this position is $18.00 per hour. Employees are paid bi-weekly and our regular payday is Friday. There are no benefits or paid time off with this position.

Position Description
Clarkson’s Beacon Institute hosts spring field trips for local school districts in addition to 5 weeks of summer programs for K-12 audiences at the Beacon Campus. The Program Assistant position will aid in the planning, preparation and delivery of programming at Clarkson’s Beacon Campus in Denning’s Point State Park. Hudson River ecology based field trips are hosted on-site for middle and high school students throughout May. There will be several STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) camps running throughout the summer with middle and high school students. Assistants will work half day shifts (8:30 - 1:30) Tuesday - Friday.
Required Qualifications include: strong communication skills; capacity to be flexible and adapt to situational changes; interest in education or working with younger students; and ability to lead a group.
Preferred Qualifications include: previous experience working with a summer program; experience working with young, diverse populations; and experience in program planning.
Physical Demands include the ability to walk and be on your feet for several hours at a time, to lift up to 20 pounds, and to project your voice to a group of 10 or more. Applicants should enjoy being outdoors, as most programs will be largely held outside.
