We began this lovely weekend with a visit to Ben and Jerry's where we took a tour of the factory and the water treatment facility. Mmm, free ice cream. Next we had a splendiferous and expensive dinner at the New England Culinary Institute (paid for by the government, thank you very much!) followed by enjoyable after dinner drinks at the hotel bar. Good times, great food.
Bright and early the next morning we visited the Intervale Composting Facility where we had a good stroll through the mud. After hosing off, we went to a biomass plant that provides electricity for Burlington where we toured the facility and sweated by the furnace. Next we went to ECHO Leahy Center for Lake Champlain and spent an educational afternoon strolling through its exihibits. And pressing pennies for 51 cents in the souvenir penny presser thing.

Here's the crew (minus Olga, who's taking the picture) at the Ben & Jerry's flavor graveyard. It was a rather somber occasion. |
These two fellows aren't really Ben and Jerry. They are the REU Program Directors, Stefan and Tom. Sure fooled us! |
