I'm sure you are wondering what I, Sarah Steely, did during the summer of 2005 at Clarkson University. Well, you've come to the right place, my friend. This summer I looked at mercury desorption from soil and had a fun time doing it. For a summary of the research I did this summer, make sure you check out my abstract from the SURE Symposium.

This is Huntington Forest and Lake Arubutus where I collected some of the soil used in my experiments. I had to climb a rickety fire tower that swayed a lot in the wind to snap this beautiful shot. |
Here's the spot where I got my Huntington soil from. Yay for digging in the dirt! |

Summertime in Potsdam, NY is pretty sweet if you like small towns and the outdoors. Which I do. I had a great summer (aside from the crazy bugs and humidity) hanging out with the rest of the REUers and spending time outdoors. However, you can read about our fun times in the Past REU Summer web pages.

Tom Langen and Stefan Grimberg in Vermont. |
I would like to thank the NSF and Clarkson University for providing me with the opportunity to conduct undergraduate research. I would also like to thank the REU Program Leaders, Tom Langen and Stefan Grimberg, and my mentor, Dr. Stefan Grimberg, for making this summer a rewarding and fun experience.
