Where Can Mathematics Take Me?

An undergraduate degree in mathematics leads to any number of rewarding careers in industry, government or education. Mathematicians, statisticians, actuaries, computer programmers, and analysts are all in high demand. Teaching is another possibility. Clarkson graduates have found great jobs in quality assurance, actuarial mathematics, and college-level education. Many graduates continue their studies in the nation's best advanced degree programs in mathematics and related fields. The placement rate for our mathematicians is one of the nation's highest and in recent years has been at or near 100%.

Clarkson is noted for providing its students with ample co-op and internship possibilities. Math interns have worked for Travelers Insurance, Hartford Insurance Group, and many other major corporations. While cooperative placements are an excellent learning opportunity, they are also a great way to find a job with the same company after graduation.

You may also have the chance to broaden your exposure to mathematics through summer employment with one of your professors. In addition, you will have the opportunity to tutor and teach your peers — another great way to learn that looks great on your resume.

Every year companies from across North America visit Clarkson to interview graduates. The following is a partial list of employers hiring Clarkson mathematics majors: Accenture, Bellcore, Cabletron Systems, General Electric, Hartford Insurance Group, IBM Corporation, Milliman and Roberts Inc., KPMG Peat Marwick, Raytheon, Travelers Insurance, and Watson Worldwide Wyatt.
