A Special Invitation for Families and Alumni

October 24 & 25, 2014

Please join us this October for our annual Family/Homecoming Weekend! Held each fall, this tradition is an opportunity for families and alumni to discover more about the lives of our students while enjoying student performances, faculty presentations, soccer, hockey and football games, and special entertainment!

We are still working on the  2014 schedule, but have a look at the 2013 schedule to get an idea of what to expect!

Friday, October 18, 2013

  • 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. | Visits with Faculty and Staff (By appointment only. Subject to availability.)
  • 10 a.m.-7 p.m. | Hockey Ticket Pick-up (Ticket Box Office, Cheel Campus Center) Pick up reserved hockey tickets. NOTE: If you did not purchase a ticket in advance, students and families will have to pay $13 each at the door. Students may sit in student section for free with ID this game only.
  • 3-5 p.m. | Welcome Area  (Student Center Information Desk)
  • 3 p.m. | Women’s Hockey vs. Mercyhurst University (Cheel Arena) $4 admission, free w/ Clarkson ID (one entry per CU ID).
  • 3 p.m. | Women's Volleyball vs. SUNY Canton (Alumni Gymnasium)
  • 4 p.m. | Women's Soccer vs. Bard College (Hantz Turf Field)
  • 4-11 p.m. | Club 99 Open (Next to Cheel Commons, Cheel) and Bar 9 Open (1st Floor, Student Center) Nonalcoholic and alcoholic beverages are available for sale.
  • 5-6:45 p.m. | Pre-Hockey Buffet (Barben Rooms, Cheel) Buffet with cash bar. $14.99/person. Tax and tip included.
  • 5-7 p.m. | SausageFest (Student Center) A can't-miss event for alumni, students, and the whole family! Featuring FREE gourmet sausages, peppers and onions, cotton candy, popcorn, carnival games, and activities!
  • 5-7 p.m. | Alumni Welcome Back Reception (Student Center Lounge, Ground Floor) Mix and mingle with members of the Alumni Council! All are welcome, and alumni and legacy families are encouraged to stop by! Sponsored by the Clarkson University Alumni Council. 
  • 7 p.m. | Men’s Hockey vs. Rochester Institute of Technology (Cheel)  $13 admission, students sit in student section free with Clarkson ID this game only.
  • 7 p.m. | Clarkson Theatre Company Production (Downtown Snell Hall, Corner of Park & Elm)
  • 9:30 p.m. (Following Hockey Game) | Text Wars  (Student Center Forum) Get ready for the game show where technology meets outrageous and EVERYBODY plays with their cell phones. Make sure your weapon is charged up and turned on because for your next mission you will enter the world of Text Wars. Win prizes!
  • 11 p.m. | Toy Story 3 (Student Center Forum) Sponsored by Clarkson Union Board (CUB) and the Office of Student Life and Engagement (OSL).

  • 8:30 a.m.-noon | Welcome Area (Student Center Information Desk). Sign our guest book, pick up an event schedule, campus map & ask questions.
  • 9 a.m.-2 p.m. | Trip with Clarkson University Outing Club to Azure Mountain (Meet in front of Cheel at 8:45, caravan departs at 9 a.m.) Weather permitting. 45 minutes from campus-please bring your car.
  • 9:15-9:45 a.m. | Reh Center for Entrepreneurship: Info Session/Meet & Greet (Snell Atrium) Please join us for $1 off EntReh lattes and free coffee. Come get to know what entrepreneurial innovations the students at the Reh Center for Entrepreneurship are working on!
  • 10 a.m. | Women's Rugby vs. SUNY Oneonta (Bagdad Field)
  • 10-10:45 a.m. | Welcome from President Tony Collins (Student Center Forum) President Collins will present current academic programs and curriculum innovations and introduce members of the Parents Committee. Light refreshments will be available.

  • 11 a.m.-noon | Meet & Greet with Faculty (ERC Atrium) Meet the faculty that teach your first-year student's classes! Representatives from first-year mathematics, physics, and chemistry will attend this social hour.
  • 11 a.m.-1 p.m. | Undergraduate Research Showcase (ERC Atrium)
  • 11a.m.-2 p.m. | Oksoberfest Bratwurst Barbecue (Student Center Patio/Bar 9) Staffed by Greek Life and the Counseling Center, in recognition of National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week. FREE: Bratwurst, German potato salad, coleslaw, hot apple cider, soda, coffee, and tea. Participate in a drunk driving simulation wearing drunk goggles, get the latest AlcoholEdu statistics, and learn how to drink smart and about alcohol poisoning intervention.
  • 11 a.m.-1 p.m. | Postural Analysis with Physical Therapy and Pre-Physical Therapy Students (Student Center, 2nd Floor Lounge) Come have your posture assessed!
  • Noon | Women's Volleyball vs. SUNY Brockport (Alumni Gymnasium)
  • 1-3 p.m. | Clarkson School & Honors Program Reception (Price Hall, 2nd Floor)
  • 1-2 p.m. | Robotics Demonstration (Student Center Forum) Dr. Jim Carroll, Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, will give an overview of FIRST Robotics at Clarkson and students will demonstrate what they have been working on!
  • 1-5 p.m. | Family Fun: Make your own photo keychains or wax hands. (Student Center Multipurpose Rooms) Free! 
  • 1:30 p.m. | Club Football vs. University of Vermont (Potsdam Center High School Football Stadium, 46 Lawrence Ave.)
  • 1:30-2:30 p.m. | Dr. Jim’s Chemistry Magic Show (Science Center 360) 300 person limit– seating starts at 1 p.m. 
  • 2 p.m. | Clarkson Theatre Company Production (Downtown Snell Hall, Corner of Park & Elm)
  • 2 p.m. | Women's Soccer vs. Vassar College (Hantz Turf Field)
  • 2 p.m. | Air Force ROTC Drill Team and Color Guard Demonstrations (Indoor Recreation Center)
  • 2:15-3 p.m. | The Importance of the Professional Experience (Snell 213) Presentation and discussion with a GE recruiter and students who have participated in professional experience programs. 
  • 3 p.m. | Women’s Hockey vs. Mercyhurst University (Cheel) Tickets: $4, free w/ CU ID (one entry per CU ID).
  • 3:15-4 p.m. | Now That Orientation Is Over.... (Snell 212) Join Dean of Students, Steve Newkofsky, and Associate Director of the Student Success Center, Kate Mikel, for a mid-semester check-in. Ask questions!
  • 4-5 p.m. | Dr. Jim’s Chemistry Magic Show (Science Center 360) 300 person limit– seating starts at 3:30 p.m.
  • 4 p.m. | Women's Volleyball vs. Medaille College (Alumni Gymnasium)

  • 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. | Homecoming Pep Rally (Student Center Forum) Get pumped up with the Clarkson Community for the Men’s Hockey game!  The Pep Band will perform as well as Clarkson student groups—come see who wins the prized Tommy Award for the best Homecoming skit!
  • 7 p.m. | Clarkson Theatre Company Production (Downtown Snell Hall, Corner of Park & Elm)
  • 7:30 p.m. | Men’s Hockey vs. Rochester Institute of Technology (Cheel) $13 admission, standing room $10 per person. Free open skating 30 minutes after the completion of the hockey game.
  • 7:30 p.m. | Clarkson Hockey Game Overflow (Student Center Forum) If the game is sold out, come see the game on the big screen!
  • 9:30 p.m. (Following the Hockey Game) | Stand Up Comedy Performance by Cristela Alonzo (Student Center Forum) A can’t-miss comedy show for the whole family.  Sponsored by Clarkson Union Board. Cristela has appeared on Conan, Comedy Central’s “Live at Gotham” and “Gabriel Iglesias’ Presents Stand Up Revolution.” She was also a featured comedian on Showtime Network’s “Legally Brown.” Cristela has also written for Comedy Central and has won numerous awards for her short films, including Best Film at the Boston Comedy Festival and recently made her acting debut on FX’s “Sons of Anarchy.” In 2012, Cristela was the most requested performer at the National Association of Campus Activities where she was booked to perform at over 100 colleges and universities across the country, bringing the total number of colleges at over 200 that she’s performed at in the past three years. Cristela most recently received a development deal from 20th Century Fox to develop her own half-hour sit-com based on her life.
  • 11 p.m. (Following Cristela Alonzo) | Pumpkin Carving & Launching (Student Center Dining Hall) Enjoy some Late Knight pumpkin carving, plus see if you can hit our scarecrow targets with gourds! Sponsored by Residence Life.

Jostens Class Rings will be offering promotionally priced rings at their Student Center table event Friday, October 18th  from noon to 6 p.m., Saturday, October 19th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, October 20th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Golden Knight Hockey
Clarkson is proud to host an annual “Parent’s Hockey Game” each year during Family Weekend, as well as a standard hockey game. Your family is invited to attend them both. Come support your Golden Knights this Fall! Request your tickets by filling out this form.

Clarkson hosted a Late Knight showing of Toy Story 3 in the forum on Friday, October 18, 2013.

Alonzo Bodden
Cristela Alonzo, who has appeared on Conan, Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Showtime's Legally Brown, Last Comic Standing and Live at Gotham, performed as the headlining act in the Student Center Forum on Saturday, October 19, 2013.
