Letter from the Chief Technology Officer

Dear Clarkson University Student,

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) welcomes you to Clarkson University!

Technology will play a major role in your life during your time at Clarkson, from telephone calls home, to research on-line, to e-mail that will keep you in touch with your friends and family. We are here to ensure that you are able to work to the best of your abilities by providing you with the technology assistance you will need while here at Clarkson. OIT offers support in a variety of areas: computer hardware and software purchases, computer repairs, network access, file storage, telephones, e-mail, web, usernames and passwords, etc. Contact us for your technology needs.

Please review the important information enclosed concerning telephone services available to you on campus. If you plan to sign up for the campus telephone service, you must do so by July 15, 2009. See details in the Information Technology Guide .

OIT can assist you with the purchase of a new laptop PC that will take full advantage of Clarkson's wireless environment. This year, we are offering Dell Latitudes, complete with all the software you'll need, at very competitive prices. To ensure your order is ready when you arrive on campus in August, please order by July 15, 2009. Orders may be placed after this date, however, we cannot guarantee that they will be ready for pick up upon your arrival.

During move-in, OIT staff will be on hand to assist you in setting up your computer and connecting to the Clarkson network. We'll provide you with Clarkson's free anti-virus software, so there is no need to purchase your own.

OIT and the OIT HelpDesk are here for you. Please don't hesitate to call us now and when you arrive on campus for any technology related need. We can be reached at 315-268-6700 or at helpdesk@clarkson.edu. You can also visit our website at www.clarkson.edu/oit.

Have a great summer. We look forward to seeing you in August!

Sincerely,

Gard Meserve
