Why are my ping times so high?

Ping times are very dependant on how busy Clarkson's connection to the Internet is at any given time. The busier the Internet connection, the higher your ping times. You will tend to see the best ping times for gaming during off-peak hours (2am-10am). To see the current load on Clarkson's Internet connection, view the Network Traffic Graphs.

What is a good firewall?

If you are running Windows XP SP2, the Windows Firewall is built-in to Windows. The Windows Firewall should be sufficient for most of your needs. If you need to do more with your firewall than the Windows Firewall will allow, then we recommend using ZoneAlarm.
