Recent Changes to Bandwidth |
|
| Bandwidth Cap Adjustment | 01.Nov.2008 0823 |
| After monitoring traffic levels and usage patterns, bandwidth caps have been reduced to 3Mbps during peak hours (10am-1am), and 5Mbps during off-peak hours (1am-10am). | |
| Bandwidth Cap Adjustment | 08.Nov.2007 0823 |
| After monitoring traffic levels and usage patterns on the new Internet connection, bandwidth caps have been established at 5Mbps for all systems, 24 hours/day. | |
| Increase Bandwidth Cap | 01.Nov.2007 0823 |
| After monitoring traffic levels on the new Internet connect, bandwidth caps have been raised again. All caps are currently set to 15Mbps, 'round the clock. | |
| Upgrade Internet Bandwidth | 31.Oct.2007 0610 |
After further testing with Level3, the new Internet connection was turned up. After performing some stress tests, it appears to be stable. Increased bandwidth caps to take advantage of the new Internet connection:

| Upgrade Internet Bandwidth | 19.Oct.2007 1430 |
| The new commodity Internet connection (Level3) is experiencing severe latency. Failed back to old DS3 (Broadwing) connection to allow for further testing to occur on the Level3 circuit. All bandwidth caps reverted to previous levels. | |
| Increased all Bandwidth Caps | 19.Oct.2007 0840 |
Increased bandwidth caps to take advantage of the new Internet connection:
|
|
| Upgrade Internet Bandwidth | 19.Oct.2007 0630 |
| The upgraded commodity Internet connection is installed, providing 90Mbps of connectivity to the campus. | |
| Set ResNet default partition to 5Mbps | 18.Apr.2007 1605 |
| The commodity Internet has been running at maximum capacity during peak hours since noon today, so we are limiting the amount of "unknown" traffic entering the ResNet to 5Mbps. | |
| Set overall cap to 600kbps, Noon-2am | 28.Mar.2007 1215 |
| The commodity Internet has been running at maximum capacity during peak hours for several days, so we are scaling the per-IP cap back to 600kbps. | |
| Set overall cap to 750kbps, Noon-2am | 02.Mar.2007 1439 |
| The commodity Internet has been running at maximum capacity for several hours, so we are scaling the per-IP cap back to 750kbps. | |
| Set overall cap to 900kbps, Noon-2am | 22.Feb.2007 1300 |
| There has been available bandwidth during the peak hours over the past 24-hours, so we are raising the per-IP cap to 900kbps. | |
| Set overall cap to 800kbps, Noon-2am | 20.Feb.2007 1455 |
| Because bandwidth has been very near or at maximum capacity during the peak hours for the past several days, we are reducing the overall bandwidth cap during those peak hours to make the Internet connection more responsive. | |
| Set cap for ResNet FlashVideo | 20.Feb.2007 1455 |
| Over the past week, ResNet FlashVideo has consumed approximately 25% of the available bandwidth. Therefore in an effort to conserve bandwidth and make the Internet connection more responsive, we are reducing the allocation of bandwidth available for FlashVideo to 7Mbps between noon and midnight. FlashVideo will remain unrestricted between midnight and noon. We will continue to monitor the effects of this change and we will re-evaluate this change if it appears that it's effect is too drastic or does not have the desired impact. | |
