I've always been really interested in the medical field — but from a business perspective — so a dual-degree program in healthcare management and data analytics was the perfect fit for me. As it turned out, I was in the middle of an internship when I was offered a job in 2015, and I was able to work while pursuing my master's degree and M.B.A.

I fully believe my Clarkson University education and LinkedIn profile are absolutely what got my foot in the door for my job at 3M Health Information Systems. On top of that, my education put me five to 10 years ahead of where I would have expected to be on my career path. It's been an interesting journey so far.

As I was finishing high school and choosing a career path, initially I was interested in economics. After I graduated from Elmira College, my twin brother helped me research different programs. I was doing an internship and knew then I wanted a career in healthcare and healthcare management. We found Union Graduate College, which later became Clarkson University's Capital Region Campus. It was the absolute answer to my prayers concerning where I wanted to go career-wise.

Healthcare is my passion, and I'm also interested in management and analytics. I chose the dual-degree program so that I would be well-equipped to have an impact in the industry. Clarkson is one of just a few colleges and universities to offer a concentrated healthcare M.B.A., focused on the industry, and a data analytics program.

Within a few months of my acceptance, a healthcare analytics program was announced.

My graduate programs at Clarkson University helped me broaden my horizons. I have a new set of skills that put me where I want to be in my field. The master’s of healthcare data analytics program was developed with input from Albany-area providers and industry leaders, who were asked about the skills their workers needed to have and how higher education could help to develop this expertise.

My studies included an internship with the New York State Department of Health and the Center for Health Workforce Studies. Midway through my program, a recruiter from 3M Health Information Systems contacted me, and I was offered a job, which I began in November 2015. It's wonderful! I quickly began to receive opportunities to interface with clients, gain leadership skills and see things blossom. I was recruited before my programs were completed, but fortunately my manager is fully supportive of higher education. I received my M.S. and M.B.A. six months apart. Now on with the journey!
