Workshops and Speakers Set for Sustainability Day & Green Living Fair

Sustainability Day and Green Living Fair organizers have announced their speaker and workshop schedule. The entire event is free and open to the public.

The event will start with a virtual online keynote panel discussion on Friday, Oct. 27 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Hosted by Talking Wings, panelists will focus on the topic of "Waters Have No Borders: Working Together for the Great River and the Great Lakes." On Saturday, Oct. 28 the event will be held at Clarkson University, in the Schuler ERC and Student Center featuring many exhibitors, workshops, educational posters and an in-person keynote speaker. Activities will take place from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Workshops, Talks and Panels

More than a dozen workshops and panel discussions will be offered, with up to four held concurrently, in varying time slots beginning at 10:30 a.m. and concluding at 2 p.m. A poster session and reception will follow at 2 p.m. Full details can be found on the website.

Home-oriented workshops include: Net Zero Houses in Northern New York, How to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint with the Vehicle You Already Own, Tiny House Design for a Sustainable Lifestyle, Wear and Repair: Student-led sustainable fashion workshop and clothing swap, Benefits of Masonry Heaters: History, Structure, Design to Living Space and Use, The Environmental Cutting Board (Make-n-Take).

Workshops related to larger community aspects of sustainability include: Carbon Offsets and Climate Change, Transforming Landscapes for Sustainability, Re-Use and Waste Diversion: Universities Partnering with Community, NP&L: a Community Hydro Company, Rich Road Solar Integrated Design Workshop, Greening Your Career Path: a Student-Led Panel, and Earth-centered and Interactive Storytelling Session.
Keynote Speaker

Curt Stager will be the keynote speaker on Saturday, Oct. 28. Stager, an esteemed Paul Smith’s College Professor of Natural Sciences, is an author, radio co-host, and a science journalist focusing on ecology and paleoclimatology. He will speak about how climate change is affecting plants, animals, and people in the Adirondacks and what to expect in the future. Stager's keynote presentation will run from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. in the Student Center Forum of Clarkson University.

Sponsors for this event include the Associated Colleges of the St. Lawrence Valley, Casella Waste Systems, SUNY Canton Automotive, Northern Power & Light and Brookfield Renewables.

Parking for the event is free and directional signage for the general public will be posted on campus.
