Academic Advising
The Associate Head of School, who is your Clarkson School advisor, will assist you during the summer prior to your enrollment and during the year on selecting the courses that you may need to meet high school requirements and/or your major or simply based on your interests.
Clarkson School students take the same courses as Clarkson University first-years and can pursue coursework leading to more than 60+ majors and minors. The only class taken as a cohort by Clarkson School students is PE100- First Year Seminar (All other University first year students take FY100 - First Year Seminar.) Clarkson University is also known for its hands-on approach to learning. As a Clarkson School student, you will have the chance to launch your own business, help build a solar car, or conduct biomedical research alongside a renowned scholar. By collaborating on real-world projects alongside Clarkson University students and faculty, you’ll gain deeper insight on your choice of major and future career. There are several options available for you to explore!
We care about your success. In addition to one-on-one advising, The Clarkson School offers tutoring for its own students in major courses such as Calculus, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and upon request for other courses in our Price Hall Honors classroom adjacent to their housing. The University offers academic support including: the Student Success Center, Accessibility Services, Advising & Mentoring Programs, Campus Tutoring Sessions, Writing Center and Office of Information Technology resources. We make sure students take advantage of all the resources available on campus!
Progress Reports and Tutoring
Through Start@CU, three Progress Reports are sent out each semester to professors to provide feedback on your class performance, and follow-up meetings are scheduled when necessary. Tutoring is provided by The Clarkson School to assist students primarily in math and science courses while Clarkson University Student Success Center provides a number of support services including tutoring. These services are to ensure a smooth transition from high school to college.
The College Application Process
Many students choose to stay at Clarkson as sophomores but you don’t have to. Clarkson School students also migrate to some of the best colleges and universities in the country, including Ivy League schools, major research universities, and other highly selective liberal arts schools. In almost every case, they enter with advanced standing. Wherever you go, you will typically take sophomore-level courses the next year. While more than half of Clarkson School alumni stay at Clarkson, many go on to complete their education at other colleges and universities, including: Boston College, Boston University, Brown University, Carnegie Mellon University, Colgate University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Georgetown University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Michigan State University, United States Military Academy at West Point, University of California at Berkeley, University of Chicago, University of Michigan and others.
The Associate Head of School holds college workshops at the beginning of the semester to assist you in applying to other colleges/universities. In addition, we require each student to submit applications and essays for review before sending to admission offices. We want to make sure you put your “best foot forward!"
