Clarkson University Trustee and Alumnus Paul Horn, a senior vice president and director of research for IBM, and Dominick Ventura, vice president of Global Technical Services for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, were the keynote speakers at the recent Clarkson Center for Advanced Materials Processing (CAMP) Technical Meeting.
The three-day annual meeting, held this year in Saratoga Springs, provides a forum for an exchange of ideas and information between university and industry researchers involved in fine particle and thin film technology, as well as related colloid and surface aspects of materials and materials processing. The meeting featured presentations by faculty, industry scientists and engineers.
Dominick Ventura's address, "Process Analytical Technologies (PAT)," highlighted the advantages for problem solving using the new scientific method of PAT, including multivariate analysis and the understanding of complex processes and total quality control.
Horn graduated from Clarkson in 1968, and has been a member of the Clarkson Board of Trustees since 1998. As director of research for IBM, he is responsible for the company's worldwide research program with 3,000 technical employees located in five countries. He began his IBM career more than 20 years ago as a solid state physicist, followed by several key management positions in science, semiconductors and storage. He received a doctoral degree from the University of Rochester in 1973. Prior to joining IBM in 1979, he was a professor in the Physics Department and James Franck Institute at the University of Chicago.
Ventura is vice president of Global Technical Services at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals and is responsible for establishing strategies, policies and procedures used to transfer technology and validate new and marketed products. In his 20 years of working in the pharmaceutical industry he has held positions in operations, quality assurance, and research and development. Ventura is a member of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturing Association Drug Product Technical Group and its expert working team on Process and Analytical Technology. He received his doctoral degree in pharmaceutical chemistry from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science.
