Ajit Achuthan has been appointed assistant professor of mechanical and aeronautical engineering at Clarkson University. He begins teaching this fall.
Achuthan received his bachelor of technology degree in civil engineering from Calicut University in India, master of science in aerospace engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, master of engineering in Civil Engineering from the National University of Singapore and his Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Purdue University.
Before coming to Clarkson, Achuthan was an instructor and post-doctoral fellow with the School of Aeronautics & Astronautics at Purdue and a mechanical engineer at the General Electric Global Research Center in Niskayuna, N.Y.
His research interests include advanced materials, bioinstrumentation, Micro/Nano Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS/NEMS) and fiber-optic sensor development.
Achuthan coauthored articles in six refereed journals and has three more articles under preparation. He holds five patents and has filed several others. He has also presented at two conferences and has submitted six articles for publication in conference proceedings. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
