Sgt. 1st Class Joshua Swink has been appointed assistant professor of military science at Clarkson University.
His military education includes air assault, combat lifesaver, basic leader course, advanced leader course, senior leader course, modern army combatives level 1 and 2, Drill Sergeant School, total army instructor trainer course, Pathfinder School, sexual harassment assault response program, master resilience, urban combat leader course, machine gun leader course, rifle marksmanship instructor course, and master marksmanship trainer course.
He received his bachelor of science degree in sports and recreation management from Ashford University.
Swink has served in every position in an infantry rifle platoon. At Fort Campbell, he served as a rifleman, automatic rifleman, rifle fire team leader, rifle squad leader from 2003-09. More recently, he served as division senior master instructor for rifle marksmanship. He returned to the role of infantry rifle platoon sergeant from 2015-2017.
He deployed to Iraq from to support the initial invasion of Iraq, then redeployed for peacekeeping operations in Baghdad. From 2008-2009, he supported Operation Afghan Freedom in Eastern Afghanistan.
He was then stationed at Fort Jackson, S.C., as an Army drill sergeant. Following that assignment, he moved forward to Fort Drum, N.Y., where he served as a Pathfinder platoon sergeant, and deployed to Afghanistan in 2013-2014.
