Clarkson University to Host Blade Testing Webinar
Clarkson University will present the webinar “Blade Testing and Certification: First Steps Toward Reliable Products” on Tuesday, September 16, at 1:30 p.m. EDT.
The webinar is aimed at wind turbine manufacturers, industry and academic researchers, business executives, government policy makers, wind turbine project developers and stakeholders, insurance companies, and investors.
Topics will include:
- Certification: What are the current US and European requirements, and what is forthcoming?
- Blade test design: What to consider and how it is done for small and large scale turbines?
- Structural testing of wind turbine blades, including static, fatigue and biaxial testing.
- How to rapidly move early stage technologies to market
The presenters of the program will be the Clarkson University Blade Test Facility (BTF), Intertek/ Center for Evaluation of Clean Energy Technology (CECET), and National Renewable Energy Laboratory / Wind Technology Testing Center (NREL/WTTC).

The Blade Test Facility (BTF) at Clarkson University was established as part of the Center for Evaluation of Clean Energy Technologies (CECET), an Intertek Company, with funding from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to support and grow New York based wind market activities through performance testing, research and certification of wind turbine systems. Professors Pier Marzocca (Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering Department) and Kerop Janoyan (Civil and Environmental Department) serve as BTF co-directors. Dan Valyou is the BTF manager.
