Clarkson University Army ROTC Students Commissioned
The Army ROTC Golden Knight Battalion at Clarkson University commissioned eight cadets into the U.S. Army at the annual spring commissioning on May 9.
The ceremony featured comments by Clarkson University President Tony Collins and guest speaker Col. Timothy J. LaBarge. LaBarge was a graduate of St. Lawrence University and currently serves as the commander of the 105th Airlift Wing, Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh, N.Y.
The ceremony also included the swearing in of the new officers, the pinning of their gold bars by family members, and the traditional first salute, known as the silver dollar salute.
Receiving their commissions were seniors Matthew Brosseau, mechanical engineering, St. Albans, Vt.; Matthew Flynn, political science & law studies minor, Canton, N.Y.; Tanner Jones, global supply chain management, Erlanger, Ky.; Michael Matroniano, engineering and management, Fairport, N.Y.; Taylor Mextorf, history & literature, Albany, N.Y.; Andrew Nelden, history, Felts Mills, N.Y.; Kevin O’Connor, global supply chain management, Duanesburg, N.Y.; and Eric O’Donnell, civil engineering, Oriskany, N.Y. Hector Ruiz, psychology, Bronx, N.Y.; will receive his commission following training this summer.
Also recognized and commissioned the following week were SUNY Potsdam cadets Nicholas Carrara, biology, Potsdam, N.Y.; Timothy Dudley, business administration, Elizabethtown, Ky.; Rebecca Hyatt, psychology, Ogdensburg, N.Y.; and Taylor Phillips, political science & Middle Eastern studies, Marathon, N.Y.; and St Lawrence University student Taylor Macci, mathematics & economics, Canajoharie, N.Y.
