Clarkson University Physical Therapy Professor Named to National Task Force

A clinical associate professor in Clarkson University’s Department of Physical Therapy will play a role in shaping future national policy for physical therapists.

Stacey ZeiglerStacey Zeigler has been appointed to a national task force commissioned by the American Physical Therapy Association. Zeigler is serving this year on the Task Force to Define Physical Therapists’ Role in Prevention, Wellness, Fitness, and Disease Management for Public Policy Purposes. She is one of eight members of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) appointed to this task force, which began their work in January.

The committee will present a series of recommendations to the APTA by December that will help to shape public policy for physical therapists in future years, Zeigler said. This work will assist the APTA board in setting direction and priorities for physical therapists in the areas of prevention and wellness particularly timely during this era of national health care reform.

The task force’s primary focus is to recommend strategies to help promote and support the role of physical therapists in prevention, wellness, and disease management roles.

“We’re defining what the role of physical therapy is in these areas in order to better serve the needs of the public,” Zeigler said.

“It has been a great honor to represent Clarkson and the profession of physical therapy in helping to set standards that will impact the future of the profession,” she added.

Zeigler has been a faculty member at Clarkson since 2003 and a licensed physical therapist since 1994. She earned her doctorate in physical therapy in 2005 from Simmons College and has 19 years of clinical experience in a wide variety of settings, mostly in formal healthcare leadership roles and in geriatric care.
