15th Annual World in Potsdam Diversity Festival Writing Contest
Students of all grades are invited to participate in the 15th annual World in Potsdam Diversity Festival’s writing contest, highlighting various world cultures through the written word. The contest will run in conjunction with the November 8 festival at Clarkson University’s Cheel Campus Center, where the winners will be announced.
The World in Potsdam celebrates the rich diversity of the residents of the North Country. The day’s events will showcase world dances, food, games, crafts, songs, and other cultural activities.
The writing contest gives students an opportunity to learn about world cultures. There are four age categories and themes: fourth grade and under, fifth-sixth grade, seventh-eighth grade, and ninth grade to 12th grade.
There are monetary prizes for all age groups. The winner of the fourth grade and under age group will receive $20 and four runners-up will receive $10.
For the fifth-sixth age group, the winner will receive $40 and three runners-up will receive $20.
The winner of the seventh-eighth age group will receive $50 and three runners-up will receive $20.
For the ninth-12th age group, first place will receive $60, second place will receive $40, and three runners-up will receive $25.
All categories will also have honorable mentions and all entrants will receive certificates of participation.

The deadline for all entries is Wednesday, October 15, by 4 p.m. Entries can be mailed or delivered to Deidra Kelly, SUNY Potsdam Office of Public Affairs, Raymond Hall 606, 44 Pierrepont Ave., Potsdam, N.Y. 13676.
The festival and all of its activities are free of charge.
