Clarkson University Student Awarded General Electric Scholarship
Clarkson University senior Melissa C. Bell of Wyalusing, Pa., has received the General Electric Women's Network scholarship award. Bell, a chemical engineering major, will receive the $2,500 national scholarship from the Society of Woman Engineers (SWE).
Bell is president of Clarkson's SWE chapter, vice president of the Order of Chemical Engineers and a member of American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). She is a member of the University's Honors program and participates in the AIChE Chem-E-Car SPEED team project. This past summer she interned at Procter & Gamble.
The SWE Scholarship program provides financial assistance to women admitted to ABET-accredited baccalaureate or graduate programs, in preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology and computer science. In fiscal year 2005, SWE disbursed more than 130 new and renewed scholarships valued at more than $300,000.
