Qiu Appointed Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Clarkson University

Tong Qiu has been appointed assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering at Clarkson University. He will begin teaching this fall.
Qiu received his B.S. in civil engineering from Tsinghua University in China, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he also worked as a graduate research assistant.
After receiving his Ph.D., Qiu worked as a project engineer for Ninyo & Moore. His work focused on geological hazards mitigation and geotechnical analysis and design of general earth structures, including foundation design, retaining wall design, pavement evaluation, slope stability analysis and consolidation/settlement evaluation.
Qiu has co-written articles in the Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, Journal of Engineering Mechanics, International Journal of Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, International Journal of Geomechanics, Geotechnical Testing Journal and the Journal of Testing and Evaluation. He is an associate member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, a member of the American Society of Engineering Education and a reviewer for the Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering.
